To say this summer has been a whirlwind would be a complete understatement. We went from the East Coast to the West Coast, back to the East, and then into Canada. There was a lot of driving, flying, and even a few ferry rides. I was going to do a blog post for each stop, but now we are sitting here on our last day in Nova Scotia, and I finally have the brain space to write these things down. So here we go!

Nantucket

After New York City, we took a week off before heading to Oceanside to house-sit for friends, sneaking in a little R&R on Nantucket. Whenever people ask our favorite place we’ve stayed, this is it. 10/10, no hesitation. The island’s beauty, charm, and history make it truly special.

We stayed at The Wauwinet, a stunning hotel about 15 minutes from the island’s main town. Since it was the week before peak season, we scored a great rate and soaked up every minute. Honestly, after our go-go-go month in NYC, we didn’t do much. We read, attended the Nantucket Wine Festival, and explored the island. Also, I was on a big Elin Hilderbrand kick, and she writes most of her books with Nantucket as the backdrop, so it was special to see it in person.

SoCal

We grew up in California, so this leg of our trip was less about exploring and more about spending time with as many of our friends as we could while we were on that side of the country.

Our amazing friends Gabs and Jack eloped in Italy, so we watched their fur babies for a few weeks and then celebrated them at the world’s best elopement party a couple of weeks after they got home. Overall, we were there for about five weeks. A few highlights, aside from the elopement party, were:

  • Baseball games: Padres and Dodgers (twice)

    • Seeing Shohei pitch twice

  • Spending so much time with our friends Alex, Hannah, and their perfect baby, Daphne

    • Including going to the San Diego Zoo

  • Going to the Coleman’s wedding. Congrats Wills and Madi!

  • The week in an Airbnb with my bestie Elizabeth and her bf, Brian

  • Johnny Mananas (iykyk)

  • Celebrating my 30th birthday with so many of the people I love most

  • A quick weekend in Temecula wine country

Maine

After all the fun in SoCal, we took a redeye flight to Maine and started our month there. We stayed in Biddeford, a town about 30 minutes south of Portland. While we were there, we visited some classic harbor towns such as Kennebunkport, Camden, and Ogunquit. We ate our weight in lobster rolls and oysters and tried to soak in all the summer weather. One of the main highlights was getting to attend a Sox game at Fenway Park. We obviously love our baseball, and it has become an unintentional big part of our trip.

Toward the end of our stay, Zac flew to Palm Springs for a weekend golf trip, and my mom joined me for a few days. We kicked off her visit with a sail along the Maine coast, complete with fresh seafood and wine. The rest of our girls’ trip was filled with antiquing, thrifting, and relaxing. Our favorite find? An antique mall in Arundel with an unassuming little café that served some of the best food of the entire trip.

Nova Scotia

After the long drive – 9 hours – to Nova Scotia including a very interesting experience at the Canadian border, we made it to Wolfville! Wolfville is wine country and also home to Acadia University. It’s about an hour outside of Halifax, the province's main city. We knew it would be beautiful here, but we had no idea just how truly stunning it is. The whole drive through New Brunswick and into Nova Scotia, my mom and I just kept saying “wow”.

After the visit with my mom, Zac’s family flew out for a few days too! We were so happy to share the last leg of our trip with so much family. We played lots of card games, went to a few wineries and explored more of the province. A few favorites in here were:

  • Benjamin Bridge Winery

  • Luckett Vineyards

  • Wolfville Farmer’s Market

  • Open mic night at Paddy’s Brewpub

  • The Lookout - scenic overlook

  • Halls Harbour

  • Lunenburg - historic waterfront town

What’s next?

Tomorrow we start the week long journey home! We couldn’t be more excited to finally be settled and not pack up our lives every 4-5 weeks. But before we can do that, we have a 30+ hour road trip. Pray for us.

We’re stopping in Quebec City – which we can’t wait to go back to – Niagara Falls, Chicago and then finally home! We can’t believe that our time living on the road is over, it completely flew by. But can’t wait for what’s next! Including a trip to Thailand in November!
